There are various nutrients that a balanced diet needs to contain in order to provide the body with the necessary amount of proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, dietary fiber and water. If these nutrients are not incorporated in the diet, the result might be a metabolism disorder.</p>
<p>Minerals and vitamins are responsible for sport performance. It is therefore vital for sportsmen to have a diet rich in vitamins so that their energy balance can be maintained. Athletes need to consume daily up to 1500 kilo-calories. Hockey players need an amount of 3000 kcal per day. This amount of energy can be easily taken from food.</p>
<p>If the food people eat is varied, mineral and vitamin intake is satisfactory and there is no need for supplementation. Vegetables and fruit are rich in vitamins. They are also excellent antioxidants. Grains are also an important source of minerals and vitamins.</p>
<p>Athletes normally reach more than two thirds of necessary amount of minerals and vitamins included in the customary Recommended Dietary Allowances. The eaten food can provide a double quantity of RDA, making it possible for athletes who need high calorie intake to assimilate up to 6,000kili-calories daily.</p>
<p>However, most athletes choose supplementation to improve their performance. It is important to notice that nutritionally supplementing the diet does not result in improving endurance, cardiovascular function, physical work capacity or muscle strength. Vitamins and minerals can do that.</p>
<p>If the diet of an athlete does not meet his energy needs, vitamin supplements are added to guarantee optimal nutrition. If the calcium level is low, there is a high risk of fracture with athletes. Broccoli, dairy products, fish, juices are only a few of the many sources of food which ensure adequate calcium store.</p>
<p>Iron is necessary for hemoglobin and myoglobin synthesis and is responsible for aerobic metabolism and oxygen transport. Iron lessening is one of the most frequent iron deficiencies among athletes. Satisfactory amounts of iron can be reached while consuming dark poultry, red meat, fortified cereals, vegetables or grains.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Everybody is afraid of germs. We all want to avoid getting in contact with them as much as possible because we don&#8217;t want to get sick or get dirty. However, there are those people who fear germs so badly to the point that it&#8217;s already considered insane. </p>
<p>For example, some people compulsively wash their hands over and over after using a public toilet to &#8216;get rid of the bacteria&#8217;, often to the point of rubbing their hands raw. There are even those who refuse to hold door knobs of public places without first rubbing the area with alcohol or spraying it with a disinfectant. </p>
<p>Silly, aren&#8217;t they? However, they are very much real. And the habit is actually far from funny.</p>
<p>Obsessive compulsive disorder is a psychological problem. Most of the people who have them do not want to admit that they do because of the fear of being judged. In some places, where OCD is considered a joke, those who suffer from it refuse to talk about it because they don&#8217;t want to be laughed at. Worse, there are those who believe that OCD is something that is very minor and does not need attention.</p>
<p>Obsessive compulsive disorder is serious. Let&#8217;s point that out now. And if left unaddressed, people who have it could risk ruining their emotional and physical states and even their relationships. </p>
<p>A person who finds no happiness in a certain arrangement even after he or she has fixed the items in the group several times already may eventually feel stressed out. And though stress is a common factor of frustration, obsessive compulsive disorder blows the stress levels up to unmanageable peaks. </p>
<p>What are the common symptoms (obsessions and compulsions) of people with obsessive compulsive disorder? </p>
<p>The most popular obsessions include an unreasonable concern with symmetry and order, incessant worry about how a particular activity or job is carried out, the need for reassurance at all times, and the thinking of certain numbers or words all the time, among others. If you have seen the film &#8220;The Aviator&#8221;, you will notice that the main character, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, suffered from an extreme form of obsessive compulsive disorder.</p>
<p>The compulsions, also the called the rituals, that characterize obsessive compulsive disorder are done in an attempt to assuage the anxiety and fear felt over a certain obsession. </p>
<p>This is why some people like to count from one to ten three times out loud before doing a particular task, or why some feel that tossing a nickel three times before entering a building will bring safety and luck. These rituals do not necessarily work, but the person has this weird belief that they will and continue doing so without really knowing why it has to be that particular ritual. </p>
<p>These rituals, however, only bring temporary relief, and so a person who has OCD finds himself or herself repeating the same thing over and over again. The anxiety and fear have become so ingrained into him that he has trouble controlling it from happening. Some people find this silly. But it&#8217;s actually a rather serious matter.</p>
<p>Thus, when a person notices the symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder in himself or in a loved one, help must be sought. OCD does not kill, but it can ruin relationships and lives. And since several forms of treatment are available, there really isn&#8217;t any reason why help should not be asked for. Obsessive compulsive disorder and its symptoms are not a joke.</p>

The usual sports before done by cavemen were hunting. They hunt for animals or gather food to eat for survival. They use stones, bones, or sharp objects like wood to kill animals. With this, hunting became an activity which possessed physical abilities. Hunting became a root for athletes. People were competing against their strength and abilities during times of hunting. It soon gained to the idea that these kinds of sports need nutrition and exercise for improvement.</p>
<p>Ancient sports were not limited to men. Women of Egypt performed gymnastics for their temples. As time went by, gymnastics turned into religious dances.<br />
We are all familiar with the Olympic game held every four years. The Olympic game originated from the Greeks. They give their best athletes nutritious food and enough exercise to maintain a good physical health. It is where their skills and abilities are showcased and Greeks give importance to their athletes as they will compete on different sports during the event.</p>

<p>During the Greek era, goats and cattle were killed for food. Both are good sources of protein. Another thing included in their nutrition is fish. They mostly got fish from the Mediterranean Sea.   The Greeks considered carbohydrates and vegetables as an important part of their meal. The Romans rendered their soldiers a nutritious meal to sustain strength and energy in the battlefield.  Alexander the Great, one of the greatest conquerors in the world, discovered that onions are essential to the health.  He brought this to his empire because it had a nutritional value good for his soldiers and people. Aside from onions, vegetables like cabbage, turnips, beets, and others were also tended in their farmland.</p>

<p>Ancient people gave importance to nutrition and exercise just like what sportsmen do today. They make sure that their soldiers maintain a daily routine of exercises to keep them stable during training. They also organize a meal that has a balanced nutritional content to sustain their energy. Ancient people who trained soldiers developed food exclusively for the soldiers. Meat was only prepared in a minimal amount for soldiers but it was soon discovered that eating more meat makes a soldier stronger. Meat was then popular during the 5th century BC. Meat was initiated in the soldier&#8217;s diet. </p>
<p>Nowadays, we still consider and practice exercise and nutrition for physical strength. This is a solution to our sports need. This is how athletes cope up from fatigue and this will boost performance in sports.</p>

More often than not, we see an OCD sufferer as weird or insane and stop at that. We do not try to understand the situation deeper to see that OCD is more than just a silly behavioral problem. </p>
<p>People who have OCD are usually ashamed to admit the clinical nature of their problem because there are those of us who have the audacity to say that OCD does not merit medical concern and can be overcome simply by taking control of ourselves. If you have OCD, you will not say the same thing. That&#8217;s why it is called a &#8216;disorder&#8217;. It means that science has found that it is not as easy to stop as counting from one to ten and blinking everything away. </p>
<p>In this article, we hope to gain a greater understanding of obsessive compulsive personality disorder. First, we need to recognize and acknowledge that it is a medical condition that merits medical attention. Second, we should realize that people who are suffering from OCD are so because they find themselves unable to get ahold of their obsessions and compulsions. And, third, we must understand that OCD can also be treated.</p>
<p>Understanding OCD</p>
<p>How can we say that a person has obsessive compulsive personality disorder? OCD is an anxiety problem wherein the person is compelled to perform certain calculated rituals in order to assuage the feelings of distress or anxiety over a particular obsession. </p>
<p>For instance, if a person always fears that he might lose his father, he might do everything in his capacity to protect his father from harm, including disallowing the parent from getting out of the house (for fear that he might get nabbed or that he might get sick from outside or whatever). An extreme form of this anxiety might result in the person locking his parent inside a room to drastically reduce his &#8216;exposure&#8217; to harm.</p>
<p>Some people think a person who has OCD is crazy. However, let us not be quick to judge. Obsessive compulsive disorder is a condition that requires attention, but it does not necessarily entail that the person is insane. Insanity is considered the total incapacity to exhibit self control. OCD sufferers still have control of themselves at some level  and that is why they need to be subjected to medications or therapy.</p>
<p>How Are They Treated?</p>
<p>How is obsessive compulsive disorder treated? There are generally two ways to do this. The first treatment is via regular medication. People with OCD are asked to take drugs like Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft for a certain period or for the rest of their lives. Opposers of medication based therapy say drugs only make a person dependent in the long run and does not really address the behavioral core, bringing us to the second type of treatment  cognitive behavior therapy.</p>
<p>Cognitive behavior therapy requires a lot of patience and endurance on the part of the patient and the people who surround him or her because it deals with the alteration of habits and the changing of mindsets. </p>
<p>Obviously, this type of obsessive compulsive disorder treatment takes a relatively longer time to be successful. However, patients who have gone this route found themselves better placed after the treatments, because the method tackles the problem at the very nucleus. </p>
<p>Treatments for OCD vary according to the person who is taking them. One person might be asked to take medications alone or undergo behavior therapy alone, or he or she might be subjected to a combination of both. There is no single way to tackle obsessive compulsive disorder and each method is unique to the patient.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A lot of us often laugh at the fact that a person has obsessive compulsive disorder because we think it&#8217;s silly that a person is bound to repeat a single task over and over or is compelled to do certain things in very specific, premeditated and calculated ways. </p>
<p>For instance, if we have a friend who likes to arrange his notebooks in a particular manner inside his bag, we usually find that funny, and rather foolish, not realizing that this person might have a serious obsessive compulsive disorder problem. Or, we may already know that our friend has OCD but don&#8217;t really think much of it because, again, it&#8217;s silly.</p>
<p>If you share this view, then you are very wrong. Obsessive compulsive disorder may seem like a minor problem, but it is actually very serious. Sure, it does not kill people, not deliberately, at least, but its effects can be so grand that people who have it might eventually turn insane, or worse, be compelled to do heinous activities (we never know). </p>
<p>Some of us who have obsessive compulsive disorder do not seek treatment because, well, it seems really minor and some people don&#8217;t think much of it. Another thing, OCD sufferers often refuse to get help because they are ashamed to admit that they have it. </p>
<p>In the field of psychology, OCD is an affliction, and many people don&#8217;t want to admit that a seemingly small problem as repeatedly arranging a particular thing over and over is a mental ailment. We really can&#8217;t blame them, can we? Who wants to admit that he or she has a psychological problem?</p>
<p>It is high time, though, that obsessive compulsive disorder be addressed like a serious problem. If left unaddressed, OCD can cost us our relationships, our jobs, and even the quality of our lives.</p>
<p>What treatments are available for OCD? Two things. First, you may opt to take the directly medical route and go for drugs that are designed to increase serotonin levels in our brains and help us fight obsessions and compulsions. The risk here, however, is that we might be forever dependent on drugs. Critics of this method say that the medications are there to give a placebo effect only.</p>
<p>The second kind of OCD treatment concerns behavior modification. Called cognitive behavior therapy, those who undergo this method find themselves better cured because not only do are they able to get rid of certain OCD habits, they are also able to detect some at the onset. Behavior therapy deals with how people respond to certain stimuli. Thus, its effect is deeper and more long term.</p>
<p>How a person wants his OCD problem to be treated is a matter of personal choice. However, it is recommended that behavior therapy be preferred because it deals with a person&#8217;s response actions as a whole. Moreover, the fact that there are several methods of treatment that are available, people have no excuse to hide their obsessions and compulsions any longer. Help exists. Seek it.</p>
