If you are looking to purchase a satellite radio, there are many things you should look into before choosing a satellite radio service. There are two major satellite radio companies and they each offer different products.  Here are some tips on choosing a satellite radio service.

Depending on your location, programming interests and types of radio personalities you like, will determine which service you are happier with.  XM and Sirius satellite radio services both charge the same monthly fee of $13, but offer varied products.

XM offers over 100 channels of music as well as Baseball games and talk show personalities.  However XM music channels are not commercial free and some talk shows are also available on regular radio.

Sirius satellite radio does offer commercial free music channels as well as football, hockey and NASCAR, but does not offer baseball.  Sirius also offers exclusive radio personalities.

Depending on where you live, can also determine which service you subscribe to.  Although both services cover the entire continental United States, you can live anywhere and pick up satellite radio signals, however some locations come in clearer than others, and you might have to ask around to see if either service is better than the other when delivering quality reception.

Another factor to consider is the type of radios that are sold.  Many car manufacturers offer either XM or Sirius.  For instance GM cars offer XM satellite radio, so if you are buying a new car you might choose XM over Sirius because it integrates easily with your new car stereo. Depending on your car maker will determine which service is offered.   If you are planning on choosing a satellite radio service, take a look at the above tips.
